Golda Meir (1898-1978). Signer of the Declaration of Independence of Israel, 1948. Israeli Ambassador to the U.S.S.R., 1948-1949. Minister of Labor of Israel, 1949-1956. Foreign Minister of Israel, 1956-1969. 4th Prime Minister of Isreal, 1969-1974. Leader of the Labor Party, 1969-1974. Born Golda Mabovitz. Known as Golda Meyerson (after her husband, Morris Meyerson), until 1956, when she adopted a Hebrew name.
