The Racecourse Lagos - c. 1962
Looming in the background on the right is Nigeria's first Skyscraper-
Independence Building(later Defence House) - a 25-storey building, 300
feet from the ground, it was a gift from the British colonial government
to Nigeria during Independence in the year 1960. It was designed by
Architects at the Federal Ministry of Works. Also on the left is the
16-storey Western House Building designed by Nickson & Borys
Architects.
