Oba Akran, Ademiluyi jailed 14 years in 1967

1967 Oba Akran, Ademiluyi jailed 14 years

Oba Cladius Dosa Akran, Minister of Finance in the suspended Government of Western Nigeria and Prince Adeleke Ademiluyi, former Chairman of the Western Nigeria Development Corporation, were at Ibadan Assizes jailed seven years each for stealing.
They were found guilty by Mr. Justice Kayode Esho of stealing £504, 750 belonging to the Nigersols Construction Company Limited, Ibadan. But the judge directed that Oba Akran should serve his sentence without hard labour.
Immediately after his summary, Mr. Justice Esho asked Oba Akran: “Have you anything to say before I pass my sentence on you?”
Oba Akran, 68-year-old natural ruler from Badagry, said solemnly: “I would like to say that it has never been my wish to steal money even from for party purposes. As I have stated in my statement in court, I had an instruction from the late Premier of the region, Chief Samuel Akintola that this money was to come from an Israeli”.
