UN FORCES IN CONGO AT KANO, NORTHERN NIGERIA DURING STOP OVER 1960

Following the Security Council resolution of 14 July 1960 authorizing UN military assistance to the Republic of the Congo, some 11,500 soldiers from nine countries are now on duty' helping to restore order and calm in the country.

The airport at Kano, Nigeria, has been serving as a staging area for the UN Force in the Congo. Planes carrying troops stop at the base en route to Leopoldville, for refueling and other services.
