Sir Olateru Olagbegi II(1910- 1998) the Olowo of Owo

Sir Olateru Olagbegi II(1910- 1998) the Olowo of Owo during a photo shoot at his Palace in 1959.
Olagbegi was a prominent Yoruba Traditional ruler that reigned from 1941- 1968 and later between 1993 - 1998.

His reign was interrupted and he was exiled due to a fallout during the regional crisis between the two Action Group leaders: Obafemi Awolowo and Samuel Ladoke Akintola.

Ironically, the Action Group was launched in his Palace in 1951. Olagbegi was the epitome of a modern Traditional ruler, quite erudite and also an avid Tennis player who championed the development of the game in Nigeria.

He was father to over 140 children of which over 120 are graduates. His son Folagbade Olateru Olagbegi III is the current Olowo.
